Just go to Whole Foods for some cheese, grab a bottle of wine, and go to a friend's rooftop- you're way better off. It was way more Nicole Richie post baby than it was Paris Hilton, well, anytimeįinal say: You can skip Bin 36. Value: Good! Though a Groupon would make it even betterĭouche Bagginess: Low. I must say it was spectacular, but I've never met a cheese I don't like so I might not be the right one to ask on this particular matter. We shared two cheese flights among the three of us, You Don't Know Chedder, and the flight of the day. Taste: The cheese was amazing and the wine was ok. Not posh anymore - for three single ladies in our 20s, it was definitely a problem. "I used to take people here all the time. I first decided there was a problem when my expert Chicago native cab driver couldn't remember where Bin 36 was located. Me (Zoe Carmichael) and my two best friends, Ali Towel and Quinn Xander, are going to guide you through life, love, hardship and most importantly: food. Thus the brainchild began: The Chicago Foodie Club. Plus, how can one pair food without pairing conversation. Where do real people eat? Is the restaurant good for the money you spend? What should I order? Are the employees douche bags? These are the questions I want to know. Then layer in Metromix, Chicago Scene, The Redeye, TimeOut Chicago (etc, etc, etc), and the options get overwhelming. With new iPhone restaurant applications coming out every day, I'm overwhelmed with information about where I can eat in Chicago. Life lesson: always check for a wedding ring They were designed low to the ground to be cosy, but I just got a taste of a day in the life of Shaq. Honesty always gets two thumbs up in my book.Ītmosphere: take the rooftop at Zed 451 then add a skyline view of the city, and more modern decor. I tried to order the beet salad, and she steered me away. Our waitress was attentive (but not too attentive) and actually had an opinion about the food. For a place that's considered one of the hipper places in Chicago, the douche bag factor was incredibly low. Don't get me wrong - it was good, but I figure that if I walk away feeling like I could've made that at home, then that's sad because I'm perhaps the worst cook ever.ĭouche-bagginess: super low. Then we had apple pizza for the main course. Let's break it down:įood: average - we had a bruschetta-like appetizer with goat cheese and marinated peppers as per recommendation of the waitress. It looks straight out of the Star Trek Deep Space Nine set. It's spacious, it's hip, it's modern, it's different, it's got a great DJ. We travel in the elevator to the 36th floor, and are greeted enthusiastically (again) by a woman hostess who tells us it's open seating. We arrive via cab to the hotel, and the bellhop opens our car door and greets us with an enthusiastic, "Welcome to the Wit!" I'll take any chivalry these days, even if he's paid to do it. Lastly, if you go early enough, you can usually get some drink specials. Second, places are substantially less busy, at least in Chicago. First off, there's only one more work day to get through before the weekend. Thursnight has all the makings of a great night. Or, as we subsequently decided to call it: Thursnight. Thus, to avoid any threat of lines, the second adventure of the Chicago Foodie Club was on the less busy Thursday. Who wants to stand next to the drunk girl making out with her boyfriend or the chain smoker (who actually likes the lines) or the group of guys who talk way to loudly about either 1) their money or 2) the girl they banged last week? I heard rumors of long lines which perhaps is the greatest buzz-kill when trying to enjoy a night out on the town.
